Brisbane Lions recruit Tom Doedee has suffered a second heartbreaking ACL injury just two days out what from loomed as his club debut against Collingwood.
Doedee, who moved to the Lions from Adelaide while recovering from the same injury, sustained a partial tear to his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee following an innocuous incident in the final minutes of training on Tuesday.
It’s the same ACL Doedee ruptured last season while playing for the Crows, and the 27-year-old is now facing another extended stint on the sidelines.
The 27-year-old was preparing to play his first game back from the injury, which would also be his Brisbane Lions debut.
“It’s incredibly heartbreaking for Tom, and everyone at the club is really feeling for him,” Lions general manager of football Danny Daly said.
“Sport can produce some of the most amazing moments, but in cases like this it can also be extremely cruel.
“Tom is a fantastic person who has already become a highly popular member of our club, and everyone was excited to see him so close to making his comeback.
“He has shown he is the ultimate professional by doing everything he could to recover from his ACL, which we have all admired, and I have no doubt he will treat this injury the same.
“Everyone at the Brisbane Lions will continue to give our full support to Tom and his family.”
Doedee will meet with his surgeon to determine the extent of the injury and the best course of action.
The club will provide an update following further assessment and consultation in the coming weeks.
